Kevin Chaney, MGS

Kevin Chaney is a Senior Advisor for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), where he supports the Digital Healthcare Research Program by identifying and cultivating a new generation of digital healthcare innovation and discovery. Mr. Chaney led AHRQ’s Digital Healthcare Equity Framework project and serves as a representative on federal and non-federal workgroups, committees, and panels around many topics including the research, development and use of breakthrough technologies and solutions in healthcare such as artificial intelligence.

Mr. Chaney has extensive expertise in the development and implementation of federal programs and projects aimed at addressing critical issues involving digital healthcare and clinical informatics. He was a Scientific Program Manager and Review Officer within Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Office of Research and Development, where he provided strategic guidance on the development of VHAs informatics research portfolio – specifically focused on EHR migration, virtual care, artificial intelligence, and patient safety.

Prior to joining the VHA, he was a Senior Program Manager for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), where he co-led the development ONC’s National Health IT Priorities for Research: A Policy and Development Agenda to support alignment between the clinical and research ecosystems. He also co-led ONC’s Precision Medicine Initiative and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research activities. and co-developed and led ONC’s successful Leading Edge Acceleration Projects (LEAP) in Health IT program.

Mr. Chaney served as program lead at the Federal Office for Rural Health Policy to advance quality improvement and innovation in support of critical access and rural hospitals.

Mr. Chaney began his federal journey at AHRQ as Service Fellow for the AHRQ’s Health IT Portfolio, where he managed more than $50 million in programs to generate new knowledge about improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery through health IT. He earned a Master’s Degree from Miami University, Oxford Ohio.
