Electronic clinical quality measures (eCQM) have emerged as a standard measure collection type for regulatory reporting. In 2021, Sanford shifted from an internally developed attribution methodology to eCQMs to drive internal improvement.
Mapping eCQM data components ensures that quality measure data accurately reflect the care patients receive. Quality data can identify gaps in patient care, as opposed to working on patient outreach strategies only to discover patients already received the right care and a data error existed.
The valuable knowledge gained from Sanford's experience will impact all eCQM builds moving forward, and standardized, reliable processes are now in place. As a bonus, Sanford staff now have enough technical knowledge to meaningfully engage with EPIC and measure stewards to improve data capture for real-world clinical practice.
